Not includedBreakfast, Lunch
Lake Langano is bilharzia-free and safe for swimming. The brown color comes from suspended sediments, not pollution. Other Rift Valley lakes may carry bilharzia (schistosomiasis) risk, so swimming is not recommended. We'll clarify which activities are safe at each location. Always follow your guide's advice regarding water activities. Showers and swimming pools are available at accommodations for those wanting to swim at other times.
The Rift Valley lakes are exceptional birding destinations with over 400 species recorded. Highlights include: flamingos (greater and lesser) at Lakes Shalla and Abijatta; pelicans, storks, and herons at Lake Ziway; fish eagles, kingfishers, and numerous waterfowl at Lake Awassa; and forest species at Wondo Genet. We provide bird checklists and our guides are knowledgeable about identification. Bring binoculars for best viewing.
We use comfortable tourist-class lodges and hotels, most with private bathrooms, hot water, and restaurant facilities. Lake Langano and Wondo Genet have resort-style accommodations with additional amenities. Standards are good but not luxurious - this is a nature-focused tour rather than luxury accommodation. Electricity is generally available but may have occasional interruptions (common in Ethiopia). Most places have Wi-Fi in common areas.
